Community Energy Choice is a campaign to pass a referendum that would allow the city of Chicago to purchase electric power on behalf of all of its residents. Passing this referendum gives us the opportunity to change our power supplier and our power mix, therefore getting Chicago to run on clean, renewable energy. CYCC is working with the Chicago Clean Power Coalition on this campaign to create our own policy that will still meet the mayor’s cost-saving goals while maximizing renewable energy and lowering emissions. Currently, the city is holding public forums to hear feedback on the idea of community energy choice. In the case that the referendum passes, two public hearings will be held in front of City Council to present their plan of governance. This campaign has the opportunity to make Chicago a leader in clean energy and to set an example for the rest of the country, just like we did by shutting down Fisk and Crawford!
